Assistant Extension Professor

The faculty member in this position is expected to develop and implement a nationally recognized Extension program that integrates agricultural marketing and production economics, and/or agricultural finance to analyze alternative production and marketing systems used for value-added opportunities, including alternative/specialty crops. The position requires providing producers, professional farm managers, agribusiness professionals, and policy makers with objective, research-based information on the economic impacts of new technologies and provide market and business development assistance.. The successful candidate will be able to work in multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems associated with existing and emerging issues related to traditional and alternative production systems and markets.

Specific responsibilities will depend upon the individual hired, but include the following expectations:

  • Successfully seek and acquire external funding to support the development and delivery of Extension programs

  • Develop statewide programs utilizing innovative teaching tools and decision support aids for decision makers

  • Utilize workshops and county/state/regional presentations as well as coordinate with Extension communication specialists in the distribution of content for mass media programs where applicable

  • Generate significant scholarly output including articles in peer-reviewed journals, Extension and Experiment Station publications, departmental papers and popular press articles

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in agricultural economics or economics, preferably with specific training in agricultural marketing, production economics, or agricultural finance. The successful candidate will have a practical knowledge of U.S. and global agriculture, enabling her/him to work with public and private entities and agricultural producers in Mississippi. Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience with Extension education is desirable but not required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered.
