Position Summary
Incarnate Word High School (IWHS) seeks an English teacher. IWHS is a private, college preparatory, Catholic all-girls high school of approximately 450 students. The teacher will report to the Principal and Associate Principal of IWHS.

Description of Job Duties
Effectively teach up to six classes of the assigned course. Serve as an advisor to 15-20 students. Sponsor a club, activity, or sport. Perform lunch duty or other duties as assigned. Assist with open house, tours, etc., as a representative of the English Department as requested. Attend faculty meetings, overnight retreats, evening and weekend events as requested.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong background in the writing process. Willing to take a role with one or more of our schools clubs or organizations.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Required Education
Bachelors degree in English with strong background in the writing process and literature.

Required Work Experience
Two (2) years experience teaching English or a masters degree in English

Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree preferred. Five (5) years teaching experience. Previous experience teaching high school English.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Texas teacher certification in English or a projected plan for certification. The Archdiocese of San Antonio requires non-certified teachers to have 12 hours of education. Faculty hired without the 12 hours are placed on a deficiency plan and must obtain the 12 hours within two (2) years. Texas certification must be completed within four (4) years.
