General Description:
Under limited supervision, performs diverse and complex financial responsibilities with a greater degree of independence than an Accounting Technician I; performs a variety of complex specialized accounting functions requiring independent judgment and specialized accounting skills.
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions:
- Assists auditors by providing requested supporting documentation, information on internal processes, and coordinating activities in support of the audit process
- Assists in providing necessary accounting procedures to provide internal financial controls and ensuring compliance with established accounting practices and all applicable regulatory requirements
- Assists with banking, treasury related functions for the purpose of ensuring compliance and the implementation of necessary accounting processes
- Collaborates in the monitoring of account balances and related financial activity, ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits, and fiscal practices are followed
- Collaborates with other staff, site personnel and a variety of outside parties
- Compiles a variety of financial information related to work assignments
- Maintains a variety of complex financial information, files and records, and ensures the availability of documentation and compliance with established accounting practices and regulatory requirements
- Participates in unit meetings, in-service training and workshops
- Maintains financial records related to District assets and depreciation
- Performs a variety of financial operations related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, balancing and closing of financial data, reconciliations, monitoring cash balances, performing bank transfers and wires, and reviewing bank analysis statements
- Prepares, verifies and maintains documents for various mandated year end reporting requirements
- Processes a variety of financial information for the purpose of updating and distributing information, authorizing for action and complying with established accounting practices
- Researches discrepancies of financial information and documentation to ensure the accuracy and adherence to established procedures
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources in the process of facilitating communication, providing guidance among several parties, and providing information and/or referral for addressing inquiry
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
- Methods, practices, and terminology used in financial record keeping
- Record keeping principles applicable to school district accounting
- Modern office practices, procedures, computer hardware and software and office machines
Ability to:
- Create and maintain Microsoft Excel spreadsheet reports
- Communicate effectively with federal/state/county personnel
- Make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately
- Operate a computer, calculators and other office equipment
- Set up and maintain records
- Prepare and analyze financial reports and statements
- Follow oral and written directions
- Work cooperatively with others
- Maintains confidentiality

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- High school diploma OR GED AND (3) years applicable experience
OR - Associate's degree OR
- The equivalent education and experience
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
