Associate Dean of General Education

The role of the Associate Dean of General Education and Assessment is to support the Academic Dean of Liberal Studies and the Arts in the design, development, implementation, and assessment of interdisciplinary courses, programs, and co-curricular engagement activities that contribute to student achievement of general education goals and outcomes. The Associate Dean will also assist the Dean of the Liberal Studies and the Arts Academic division to achieve the divisional vision of developing and delivering a curriculum that appreciates the human experience through the exploration of societal systems, development of critical and creative thinking, fostering diverse cultural and social perspectives, and celebrating forms of expression and communication. As part of the student support systems, the Associate Dean may be asked to work on projects related to Collegewide Accreditation, general education core competencies, Student Learning Outcomes Assessment, and First Year Experience/transition for traditional and early college students.

Essential Job Functions:

The duties of the Associate Dean of General Education include, but are not limited to:

COLLEGE AND DIVISION ADMINISTRATION
  • Coordinates and manages all Divisional search committees
  • Participate and support regular Division meetings and meetings with department chairs, program coordinators, and team members related to the interdisciplinary support of general education.
  • Facilitate effective communication within departments, the Division, across Academic Affairs, and throughout Massasoit on issues related to the Division.
  • Stay current on technology needs within the division and advocate with IT for pedagogically appropriate and institutionally effective systems and applications as needed.
  • Attend division department meetings as requested or as needed with support of the department chair.
  • Assist in reviewing syllabi and creating the course schedule

CURRICULUM AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVE DEVELOPMENT
  • Working with the faculty, facilitate the development and assessment of Massasoit general education outcomes and interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • Participate in college and divisional strategic planning and statewide initiatives as needed.
  • Stay current on related discipline and high impact teaching practices to facilitate the integration of these practices and competencies into the curriculum.
  • Develop community relationships and networking opportunities to facilitate partnerships, advisory board participation, and needs assessment for the community.
  • Coordinate co-curricular activities and projects related to the achievement of general education outcomes.

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING/ PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
  • Adhere to all administrative guidelines and deadlines of the Collective Bargaining Agreements for full-time and part-time faculty and staff.

ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION
  • Ensure all courses, programs, co-curricular engagement activities, and external partnerships/opportunities associated with Liberal Studies and the Arts, and the general education curriculum are consistent with NECHE, DHE, and the College's academic standards.
  • Develop and implement a discipline appropriate assessment and curriculum design process to ensure the general education curriculum is delivering the best mix of courses and programs to make the most of institutional resources, adhere to MassTransfer expectations, and meet student success needs.
  • Effectively communicate this assessment process to the Division and other stakeholders, emphasizing the use of annual student learning outcomes assessment and institutional research data consistent with the goals of the Division and general education.
  • Coordinate and participate in appropriate accreditation and approval processes as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the standards and guidelines of the appropriate accreditors and provide guidance for adhering to those standards and reporting expectations.

STUDENT SUCCESS
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty advisors, and professional advising team to ensure program and course descriptions and requirements are clearly communicated to determine potential barriers to success.
  • Form and serve on interdepartmental committees and task forces designed to address any barriers to student success and help facilitate potential solutions.
  • Work with associate deans, program directors, and department chairs to schedule and ensure equitable delivery of all instructional sessions regardless of modality, location, time of offering, or demographics of intended students.
  • Facilitate the development of student handbooks for specific programs designed to adhere to Massasoit Student Services standards and highlight program requirements, expectations, opportunities, and career paths, as part of a comprehensive student orientation.

CROSS-DIVISION AND EXTERNAL INITIATIVES
  • Ensure effective program recruiting and retention through collaboration with Admissions/Enrollment Management, Advising, Marketing & Communication, Grants, and Institutional Advancement
  • Collaborate with the Transfer Services team to establish transfer agreements with baccalaureate schools and in compliance with Mass Transfer standards.
  • Collaborate with the Early College Access department to establish and support relationships with local high schools and deliver curriculum and co-curricular opportunities as needed to meet the College's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with CECE (Continuing Education and Community Engagement) and WDSP (Workforce Development and Strategic Partnerships) departments to establish and support relationships with the community and deliver curriculum and co-curricular opportunities as needed to develop stackable credentials and meet the College's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Grants Department team to propose and strengthen appropriate grant application development, implementation, and reporting.
  • Represent the college as needed in interactions with community agencies, businesses and other community groups.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a discipline related to the division or higher education in a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching at the college level
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of administrative experience
  • Understanding of the Massasoit community, college history, mission, and student demographics and goals.

Preferred:
  • Terminal degree preferred
  • Community college teaching preferred
  • Administrative experience in an academic leadership role; community college preferred.


Additional Information:
Position Status: Non-Unit Professional, full-time, state funded with benefits.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: $93,346-$121,349 annually. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
