Assistant Professor of Performing Arts-Musical Theatre, full-time tenure track. Housed within the College of Fine Arts, the School of Performing Arts at Wichita State University seeks a dynamic colleague to enhance our musical theatre program. The Assistant Professor of Performing Arts – Musical Theatre is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position that will teach, advise, mentor, andrecruit undergraduate performing arts majors with a focus in musical theatre. Our new colleague will teach foundational and upper-level musical theatre courses, supervise capstone projects, and work with colleagues on curricular and school innovations aligned with the professional field of performing arts with a focus on inclusive excellence. Additional areas of expertise and interest may include but are not limited to acting, directing, musical theatre history from a global perspective, intimacy for the stage, script writing/analysis, devised musical theatre, dramaturgy, musical theatre for social justice, interactive and digital performance, music analysis, etc. We especially welcome candidates with experience and specialization in musical theatre and practices/traditions of Latinx, Indigenous, and Black populations. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education, fostering an inclusive environment, first-generation students, and promoting the success of underrepresented students. Required: MFA in Musical Theatre, Theatre, or related studies; experience teaching and performing musical theatre; demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy; experience working with diverse populations including first-generation college students; demonstrated ability to teach courses in auditions, directing, scene study with a focus in Musical Theatre; excellent written and verbal communication skills; willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, including onlineand blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches.
Preferred: Demonstratedability to music direct productions; experience teaching at full-time or equivalent course load in higher education; strong keyboard skills with the ability to arrange and transpose music; teaching history of Musical Theatre from a global perspective; experience with professional level productions; professional experience with film and digital media; commitment to creating and teaching inclusive and multicultural curricula; ability to serve as a vocal coach for musical theatre performers.
Start Date: August 4, 2024. Salary is commensurate with qualification and experience. Review of completed applications will begin November 13, 2023. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check as required by Kansas Board of Regents policy.
