Position Description

Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for a Clinical Learning Coordinator to join our community. This position supports the work of the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing and academic programs in the College of Nursing (CON).

Summary of Duties:

The Clinical Learning Coordinator plays a critical role in overseeing clinical education and training experiences for undergraduate nursing students, and supporting clinical faculty. This position involves coordinating clinical placements and clinical instructors, liaising with healthcare facilities, and supporting students to ensure a high-quality learning environment that aligns with program objectives and regulatory requirements. The Clinical Learning Coordinator is the primary contact for the prelicensure clinical instructors and serves as a CON liaison with these organizations with whom students have their clinical experiences. The Clinical Learning Coordinator is responsible for building positive relationships with students, clinical faculty, and clinical partners while participating in official communications and problem solving. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of future nurses and sonographers and the advancement of healthcare education within an academic setting.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Clinical Placement Coordination:

  • Collaborate with College of Nursing administration, clinical faculty, clinical coordinator, and healthcare facilities to finalize scheduled clinical placements for nursing students, ensuring alignment with program requirements and learning objectives.
  • Oversee student assignments to clinical sites, considering individual learning needs, clinical competencies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide clear and consistent communication to students and clinical faculty about clinical placements, orientation days, clinical skills development, and clinical simulation learning days.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical sites for suitability, safety, and quality of learning experiences.
  • Serve as the liaison between clinical instructors and CON administration, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Troubleshoot complex placement issues in partnership with students, faculty, and clinical sites.

Student Support and Guidance:

  • Provide orientation and support to nursing students regarding clinical expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for students during clinical rotations, offering guidance, feedback, and support to promote professional growth and competency development.
  • Address student concerns, conflicts, and challenges related to clinical experiences, collaborating with faculty and clinical instructors and preceptors as needed.

Faculty Collaboration and Development:

  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to ensure alignment of clinical experiences with academic curriculum objectives and course requirements.
  • Facilitate faculty orientation and training related to clinical education, preceptorship, and evaluation processes.
  • Work closely with faculty to verify that student performance assessments are completed and filed.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and clinical practice guidelines in clinical education activities.
  • Maintain documentation and records related to clinical placements, student evaluations, and preceptor qualifications.
  • Participate in program evaluation and accreditation processes, providing data and reports related to clinical education outcomes.
  • Collaborate with CON administrative leadership (principally Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Assistant
  • Dean for Regulation and Compliance) on special data collection projects.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

  • Identify opportunities for enhancing clinical education experiences, incorporating evidence-based practices, and promoting innovation in teaching and learning methods.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to develop and implement strategies for improving clinical education outcomes, student satisfaction, and program effectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of trends, developments, and best practices in healthcare education and clinical practice to inform program enhancements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two or more years of progressive administrative responsibilities preferably in healthcare or administrative academic setting; or a combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • The candidate must be able to successfully use MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS SharePoint, and MS Outlook.
  • Working knowledge or willingness to learn SU student records system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to present to small and large groups of students and other stakeholders.
  • Perform well in a fast-paced work, detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to monitor, assess, and triage evolving situations and take initiative to suggest and/or implement solutions.
  • Ability to remain calm when competing priorities emerge.
  • Demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusivity and to the university's mission, vision, and values.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, healthcare providers, and community partners.
  • Some knowledge or prior experience in health care or health professions education.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field required; Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with experience in nursing education or clinical coordination preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing education principles, clinical teaching strategies, and curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in nursing education.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $60,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training.
