This position is internal to University of Colorado ORP Retirees.

Job Summary:

The role provides intermittent oversees the operations of a high volume clinical trials laboratory and is a subject matter expert in experimental design and conducting translational immunology assays investigating immune responses to infectious pathogens and vaccines, particularly related to HIV. The role functions fully independently and teaches new research personnel at the institution and consults for multi-center clinical trials with respect to developing and implementing clinical trials. The role functions as liaison for the section head with other bench science investigator groups within the Pediatric Infectious Disease section. The role provide laboratory support to numerous worldwide collaborative clinical trials networks inclusive of HPTN (HIV Prevention Trials Network), HVTN (HIV Vaccine Trials Network), MTN (Microbicide Trials Network), ATN (Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS), IMPAACT (International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials), ACTG (AIDS Clinical Trials Group), CoVPN (COVID-19 Prevention Network), PHACS (Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study). Laboratory collaboration is also provided to various Pharmaceutical corporations inclusive of Merck, Janssen, Moderna, Gilead, and GSK (Glaxo Smith Kline). Nature of work includes the processing and prepping of potentially hazardous Biological specimens for immunological assays, storage, and shipping.

Key Responsibilities:

· Oversee laboratory operations on an interim basis

· Ensure that all study specimens are processed, documented and recorded in a timely manner.

· Prepping and storage of human biologicals inclusive of but not limited to PBMC, plasma, serum, urine, saliva, nasal swabs, vaginal swabs, and dental plaques.

· On-call 24/7 for all equipment alarms and for emergency related to Biological shipping

· Organize, maintain accessible data which Includes collation/storage/organization of raw data and study procedure details. Data entry/extraction/export to data summary. Database maintenance of the LDMS system which may include data entry, import/export of samples from different labs, storage management of various human samples. Creating and maintaining database from various IMPACCT, PHACS, ATN, AMC, HPTN or PED studies.

· Ensure required training is in compliance with regulations and maintain required records for staff

· Document Chain of Custody data for all Protocols via Flow Sheets

· Consult with administrative and clinical staff to insure adequate clinical supplies and budgeting

· Communication with collaborating laboratories, clinic sites,data collection agencies

· Participate in preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, presentations. Assistance with literature research to increase knowledge base and plan future work

· Maintain laboratory equipment. Monitor equipment function, identify problems.

· Maintaining adequate lab supplies on hand

· Advise PI and other team members on policy guidance and interpretation to team on operational issues assuring compliance with Federal, University, and departmental rules and regulations.

· Laboratory Management inclusive organize, maintain accessible data. Which Includes collation/storage/organization of raw data and study procedure details. Data entry/extraction/export to data summary. Database maintenance of the LDMS system which may include data entry, import/export of samples from different labs, storage management of various human samples.

· Ensuring compliance with audits from various clinical networks in terms of laboratory equipment calibrations, required chain of custody documentations, various SOPs

· Maintain mandatory training certificates for research and clinical work inclusive of GCLP (Good Clinical Laboratory Practice), CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative), HIPPA, IATA Shipping, Bloodbourne Pathogens, and Chemical Waste.

· Independently design and conduct experiments investigating translational immunology.

· Develop novel assays with special expertise in assays of immune function.

· Prepare and analyze experimental datasets

· Perform flow staining and analysis by Flow Cytometer

· Perform literature searches to review current research protocols and theories to aid with new investigational research



Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in City, State.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

· Education: Master's of Science Degree

· Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience working in a research and/or clinical laboratory setting

· Experience: Trained and competent on laboratory sample processing techniques, sample storage protocols, sample shipping protocols, and sample database software (e.g. LDMS) required for the PHACS, IMPAACT networks and industry studies.

Condition of Employment:

· Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado

· Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Master of Science Degree in immunology or related field

2 years of experience overseeing laboratory operations

5 years experience working in an Immunology Laboratory Setting with previous experience in isolation of human serums and PBMC

Experience with cell culture and ELISA techniques

Experience in IATA shipping for Biologicals

Previous GCLP certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong Communication skills (verbal and written): ability to communicate between and amongst laboratory peers, clinical nurses, and administrative staff

Must be able to convey and be an active participant in group conference calls for various protocols

Organization skills: Must be able to budget time effectively and accordingly to plan long research experiments; must be able to budget time to align with patient and clinical schedule for processing

Receptive to advice and critique from peers

Ability to train new staff members and students

Laboratory skills such as micro and serological pipetting

Math skills to allow in the making of chemical solutions, determination of g-force for centrifugations, and to calculate cell counts following manual counting of cells

The starting hiring range for this position has been established at: $46.45 /hour
