The University of Colorado Denver is seeking applications for a rostered faculty member to be the part-time Director of the Center for Faculty Development and Advancement (CFDA). The ideal CFDA Director will be a motivated and accomplished faculty leader on campus who will help advance the career success of all faculty ranks. The Director of the CFDA provides academic, strategic and operational leadership for campuswide faculty support, career development and resource initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Affairs (AVC-FA), the Director will work with the Office of Faculty Affairs to create opportunities for faculty success including, but not limited to, workshop development, faculty promotion processes and procedures, career advancement, faculty leadership development, and faculty fellow initiatives. The Director will serve as a conduit for national research and state-of-the-art practice in exemplary Faculty Development Centers and function as a catalyst on the CU Denver campus to incorporate new initiatives to advance faculty success.

CFDA Director

What you will do:
  • Program Direction (70%)

    • Organize existing resources and information available to ensure accuracy and inclusion of all pertinent resources relevant to faculty advancement.

    • Maintain the CFDA electronic Dossier Library and coordinate the delivery of dossier consultation that can be matched with faculty in all tracks.

    • Oversee CU Denver New Faculty Orientation (NFO)

    • Create and maintain faculty workshops that are relevant to faculty wants and needs at CU Denver.

    • Oversee institutional membership with the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity

    • Collaborate with the AVC-FA to support the delivery of ongoing programs, such as: mentoring support, coaching, first year experiences.

    • Recruit, support, and oversee CFDA faculty fellows.

    • Supervise CFDA staff, including Assistant/Associate Director.

    • Collaborate with the AVC-FA to evaluate, update and improve faculty programming offerings, and to develop short- and long-term goals for the department.

    • Provide continued support to IRC faculty, outside of what academic units already provide, and implement initiatives based off needs from AVC-FA and UCDALI

    • Oversee faculty professional development fund distributions and provide annual maintenance and reporting to AVC-FA

    • Seek funds from internal and external sources to support and expand programming

    • Collaborate with other constituents at CU Denver such as UCDALI, TIPS, CETL, ORS, and other departments as needed to provide collaborative and excellent faculty support

    • Provide strategic and fiscally responsible management of the CFDA budget

    • Engage in outreach to schools, colleges, and the library to inform them the CFDA programming and collect input about new program development.
  • Mentorship and Support (20%)

    • Provide one-on-one consultations for individual faculty members on issues related to academic careers, faculty promotion processes, dossier production, scholarly productivity, writing, leadership development, and other faculty needs.
  • Program Evaluation (10%)

    • Conduct regular assessments to ensure programming offerings are responsive and aligned to faculty career development needs.

    • Ensure accuracy of information located on the CFDA website

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Earned terminal degree in any field or discipline from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Current rostered faculty member

  • Leadership experience, preferably working with faculty

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Full professor, full Teaching or Clinical Professor, or Principal Instructor

  • At least three years of experience leading, supporting, or engaging in faculty advancement activities (example: faculty mentoring, coaching, supporting faculty promotion processes)

  • Three years of relevant administrative experience, including overseeing budgets and supervision of staff

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development through engagement in professional development experiences and programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and faculty development

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with university constituencies, including administrators, faculty, staff, and stakeholders of the institution

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in higher education for faculty development

  • Comprehensive knowledge of faculty promotion processes and procedures

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with program and curriculum design, program implementation, adult learning pedagogy, mentorship, program outcomes and assessment tools

  • Leadership experience, skills and abilities to develop and carry out new initiatives

  • Skilled in communicating effectively in writing, public presentations, and individual or group consultations

  • Skilled in identifying problems, analyzing data and making recommendations

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate principles of equity and inclusion into program practices

Conditions of Employment

  • Term limited, 3-year renewable position. (The right of IRC faculty applicants to return to their home department as faculty members will be negotiated with their chairs and deans.)

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
  • The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work; often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position will include course buy-outs for 50% of the faculty member's course load, an administrative stipend (10% of base salary), and summer pay (6 weeks) for faculty on 9-months appointment. Faculty on 12-month appointment, will receive an additional administrative stipend (5%) in lieu of summer pay.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
